Scott Garland - alto sax

Scott Garland has been playing professionally since the age of 14. His first jobbing gig was with a jazzfunk band called "Hard Lines" in the 1980's. He then started attending rehearsals with NYJO and started gigging with the orchestra at the age of 16. At 18 he went to Berklee College of Music in Boston, to study jazz performance.

On heading back to the UK, he moved from Kent to London and started working in and around London, the UK and Europe. He has played with a variety of artistes and bands, including The Spice Girls, The Brand New Heavies, The Style Council, Shirley Bassey and Michael Ball, as well as doing session work and West End shows.

He has been a member of two award-winning bands - Sax Appeal and The Pete Cater Big Band, both on lead alto sax. He currently lives in Sussex and is teaching, lecturing, freelancing and running his own band Straight To The Heart, a David Sanborn tribute band.
